| Nearly a century has past since Electric Vehicles were used for transportation and recreation on Jekyll Island. They were called Red Bugs. Few of the original Red Bugs exist today. Jekyll Island tourism is increasing annually and since many of our visitors come just to tour this historic area, Red Bug Motors has been founded to reintroduce Electric Cars for use on Jekyll Island. The new Red Bug offers the open air feel of the original Red Bug with many new safety features that were not available 100 years ago. These fun to drive cars are street legal on Jekyll and are available in a 2 and 4 passenger versions. They are equipped with seat belts, roll bar, lockable rear trunk, windshield wipers, head lights, turn indicators, rotating beacon, horn, rear view mirrors and an instrument panel that indicates speed, mileage and battery level. The Red Bug travels up to 25 miles per hour and has a range of approximately 40 miles on a full charge.
